Again this week we are going to check out two wonderful children’s books by Eric and Lanin Thomasma. Sam and the Dragon, a fantasy tale about a boy who befriends a dragon and helps the whole town.

Author Kären Swanson found her father’s letters after his death and was then able to reconnect with family members to learn more about him, his Norwegian ancestry, and his Hollywood connection with Charlie Chaplin’s first film Gold Rush and the Douglas Fairbanks pirate movies. This compilation of her memories is sure to inspire others to see their own heritage in a new way.

Young Adult novels need to ride a fine line between being accessible to a younger audience while at the same time not insulting their intelligence. It’s even harder to do so while writing in a time period that may not captivate the younger audiences of today. So how did this YA adventure do?
